The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner had its beginnings in 1903 as the Weekly Fairbanks News. It progressed to the Daily News, to the Fairbanks Daily News, Fairbanks Daily Times, Fairbanks News, Fairbanks News-Miner and finally the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner.
The newspaper changed hands, publishers and locations several times until 1950. In 1950, C.W. "Bill" Snedden took over as owner and publisher. Under the direction of C.W. Snedden, the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner was instrumental in the statehood movement which took place in the late 1950s.
The Dick Scudder and Dean Singleton families purchased the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner in 1992. Fairbanks Daily News-Miner Inc. purchased the Kodiak Daily Mirror in 1998.
In 2016, the News-Miner was purchased by the Helen E. Snedden Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit.
